Good Morning Family!

I mentioned last week that I thought the Lord would lead me somewhere else for a while in our sermon series.  We have been back in The Greatest Story Ever Told for weeks now and I felt like it might be time to move somewhere else in the scriptures for a bit.  I know it is what I have entitled the walk through the Gospels, but isn’t all of the Bible really the greatest story ever told?

That said, I can say that I believe we shall enter a 10 week or so duration series entitled, “The Way of Wisdom”.   There have been several books with this title and some music as well, but I am not using any book to walk with you through this series. Instead, it came to me another way…

Last Wednesday night, Tracy talked to the students about Job.  She did a great job and as she spoke, I thought about my father.  The book of Job always reminds me of him as he was requesting parts of it to be read to him on the day he died as he knew his time was very short.

So, then that reminded me of a song by Michael Card written over 30 years ago called, “The Job Suite”.  This song really has spoken to my heart over the years.  Actually, at a Michael Card concert in 1991, Robin and I got to sit down with him, just us three, for about 45 minutes to have dinner.  We spoke of our children and families.  I also spoke of my father passing away just a month before and how the song really meant a lot to us. He later that night mentioned my father and his story during the concert as he sang the song.

All of that was running through my mind on Wednesday night, and then Thursday I woke up early with the song my mind, so I listened to it and then contemplated the now thirty-plus year-old album from which it came; which included all songs and thoughts on the wisdom literature of the Old Testament.  I began to think how I have used Christmas carols at Christmas as jumping off point to dive into scripture for a sermon series before.

I don’t know exactly how this is going to go, I have not extensively plotted out anything, except this morning’s sermon to kick it off.  Each week, I will play a song, then jump to the scriptures from which it is derived.  So, join me then for the next ten weeks or so as we journey in the wisdom literature of the Old Testament on “The Way of Wisdom”.

As always, my prayer is that we would all, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.”   II Timothy 2:15

Humbly Yours,

Bro. Steven
